The German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA) has joined the Global Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) pilot. It has thereby extended its PPH network by another twelve partner offices. The PPH serves to accelerate processing of patent applications through the exchange and mutual use of work products beyond country borders. Examination quality will be maintained, but at the same time, the patent examination procedure will be made more efficient

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the Japan Patent Office (JPO) have implemented an agreement under which JPO will act as an available International Searching Authority (ISA) and International Preliminary Examining Authority (IPEA) for certain international applications filed with the USPTO as the Receiving Office (RO/US), under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). The agreement will take effect on July 1, 2015. The agreement is intended to end on June 30, 2018, but may be continued by mutual written consent
